Does the VPA offer a list of Automotive Protection Products that it believes are high-quality offerings?

No. The VPA does not recommend or endorse any specific automotive protection product.

Assessing automotive protection products is something that many other third-party rating agencies already do. Our concern is that VPA members always offer consumers appropriate disclosures and treat consumers fairly. We apply these criteria to all of our members, including those who offer automotive protection products.

 

VPA Fact: Firms that previously branded their companies as "Extended Auto Warranty Companies" are moving away from using the term "warranty" in their company names and offerings because it is confusing to consumers. Buying a vehicle services contract (the correct terminology) does not extend a car warranty or truck warranty. Warranties come with new cars. In contast, vehicle services contracts protect a car after the manufacturer warranty is no longer active. In addition, coverage provided by a vehicle service contract may be limited compared to the original new car warranty. It all depends on the level of coverage provided by the service contract you purchase.
